The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” Psalms 2:2-3
There are modern powers and authorities (whether socialistic, atheistic, or progressive) trying to seize the minds of the American populace, and in many ways they have succeeded with a sizable portion. Think about it. They have public schools. The media in their pocket. And the saddest of all, a two party system that makes us think we have a choice when really we’re voting for the same government just with a few different talking points. The result is a generation brainwashed to believe what it is told. A group of citizens that does not think for itself. But what these authorities can’t do is undermine the power of the gospel (Psalm 2) and so their plans are ultimately doomed to fail.
Let me unpack that last sentence. The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. One of the things that causes communistic China to suppress the underground church is found in how they label Christians. They are called “counterrevolutionaries.” While this may be a sort of excuse, it is not far from the truth. Whether Christians know it or not, their message does undermine the powers of this world. We have a message that undermines socialism, humanism, communism, and any other “ism.”
The gospel proclaims that Jesus Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth. Which means that His followers are beholden to none, except Him. Sure we submit to lawful authority, pay taxes, and do not take over by bloody revolution. But our “message” (with the influence of the Holy Spirit) is the thing that changes peoples and cultures. It seizes the mind, and transforms it. Once a mind is freed from the systems of this world, it can not longer be controlled by it. Christians live under a new government, a heavenly one. Their allegiance is declared in the revolutionary thought of the apostles: We must obey God rather than man. Such a thought undermines every philosophy of this world, and will in the end destroy every man-made kingdom.
